Living Out the Mind of Christ - Sunday's Message Recap

Philippians 2:19-30

This week's sermon from Philippians 2:19-30 explored what it truly means to live out the mind of Christ through the examples of two ordinary men - Timothy and Epaphroditus. Just as we might anticipate a perfect, orderly home only to find it messy and cluttered, our lives without Christ's guidance reflect that same disorder. Through these two faithful servants who worked alongside the Apostle Paul, we discovered that having the mind of Christ isn't about perfection or duplicating someone else's ministry - it's about denying ourselves, serving others, and following Jesus wherever He leads us. These weren't superstar Christians in the spotlight; they were regular believers who committed their lives fully to Christ and His church.

Takeaways:

  • Living out the mind of Christ begins with knowing Christ. We cannot serve effectively or develop Christlike character without first having a genuine relationship with Jesus. Timothy grew up with faithful examples in his mother and grandmother, but he still had to personally embrace faith and then continually cultivate it through discipleship.

  • Discipleship is an ongoing, two-directional process. Like Timothy learning under Paul's mentorship, we need people pouring into our lives while simultaneously investing in others. This generation desperately needs believers who will step up to disciple the next generation of church leaders, teachers, and servants. Who are you pouring into to help them develop the mind of Christ?

  • True servants focus on others' interests, not their own. Both Timothy and Epaphroditus demonstrated genuine concern for others above themselves. Paul could find no one like Timothy because most were "seeking their own interests" rather than Christ's. Epaphroditus risked his life delivering a gift to Paul and was more concerned about the Philippian church's distress over his illness than his own suffering. As long as we have breath in our lungs, God has work for us to do - there's no retirement from serving Him.

As we move forward this week, let's remember James 1:22: "Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." Don't just file away Sunday's message - ask God how He wants you to apply it. Who is He calling you to serve? What interests of your own do you need to lay aside? Who might become your "Timothy" as you invest in their spiritual growth?

These two men weren't special or unique - they were ordinary believers who trusted Jesus and committed everything to Him. That's something every one of us can do.

Fall Communion

Fall Communion

Sunday, November 9, 2025

Join us for this opportunity to gather together and do what Jesus told us to do. We start the evening with the Love Feast, aftwerward we participate in foot washing, and we end the evening by taking part in the bread and the cup. Throughout the evening we join in singing songs of praise and worship that help us reflect on Jesus' sacrifice and meaning in the three parts of Communion.

Wonderful Growth and a Friendly Request to Our Church Family!

Help us make new attendees feel welcome at Grace!

We have some truly exciting news to share! Over the past few weeks and months, we’ve seen a wonderful increase in attendance for our Sunday services. It’s been so encouraging to look out and see more new faces and new friends every week, and we are incredibly grateful for this sign of God working in our community.

As our church family grows, we need your help to make sure every new person feels welcomed and can easily find a seat.

Sunday Seating: Moving Forward Together

We need your help to make finding a seat simple for our first-time attendees and new friends.

  • Please make your way toward the front! If you are physically able, we encourage you to sit in the forward sections of the sanctuary. This leaves the back rows open for new people who often prefer to sit near an exit. Even moving forward one or two rows from your regular seat can help.

  • Safety Team members and those with physical limitations should continue to sit where they are most comfortable/needed.

Parking: A Simple Act of Service

Let’s save the best parking for our new families and individuals!

  • We are asking all regulars who are physically able to please park in the spots further away from the main entrance. Again, even one or two parking rows back can help us do this.

  • Saving the closest and most convenient spots ensures that new people have an easy, stress-free path into the building. If you would like to have a greeter or usher park your car for you and retreive it after service is over, please let us know.

Thank you for demonstrating the love of Christ through these simple but powerful acts of hospitality. Your willingness to adjust makes a huge difference!
